Cherry Whytock

Cheery Whitock, author

I studied textile design at Middlesex University and the Royal College of Art and subsequently worked as a freelance textile designer. During this time I also worked as a painter and had pictures selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Hunting Art Prize. I have exhibited paintings in London, Sussex and Kent.

I am a qualified art teacher and have spent time teaching children across the school age range. This has given me many insights into the wonderfully batty things children get up to; their facial expressions and in particular the sort of things they do when they think ‘teacher’ can’t see.

I worked as a stylist on a local magazine, Wealden Times and illustrated the magazine for teachers called Inkpellet. I have written and illustrated my own books for Piccadilly Press and Puffin and have worked with Caroline Plaisted on books published by Macmillan, all of which I have enjoyed tremendously. I live in ‘Royal’ Tunbridge Wells and do my best to be delighted rather than disgusted whenever possible.
