Jenny Koralek, author

I was born on a farm in South Africa, but we came back to England when I was a little girl. After I left school I went to Paris and studied at the University there. Then for some years I lived and worked in Switzerland and France and later in Canada and the USA. That is where I met P L Travers, author of Mary Poppins. We became close friends and, inspired by her, I began my lifelong study of myths and spiritual traditions.

While my children were small I worked in a Rudolf Steiner nursery school; that’s where I learned much from eavesdropping on their conversations and watching them at play: something I continue to do still. I began writing when my children were starting to leave home.

Over the past 30 years I have had numerous books and short stories published with, among others, Methuen, Penguin, Hamish Hamilton, Walker Books, Frances Lincoln, CUP, Kingfisher/Larousse and Egmont in the UK and with Little Brown, Henry Holt, Candlewick Press, William Eerdman in the USA. Several books have been translated into Greek, Dutch, Italian, Finnish, Danish and Norwegian. I have also had two books for adults published in the USA.
