Roxana de Rond
I have always enjoyed telling stories with pictures, and I currently work as a freelance illustrator. In the past year, I finished an MA in children’s book illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. On the course I learned a real appreciation for observational sketching. These sketches are often rough and quick but provide a base and even a story to work from later. I especially enjoy drawing people, and how they interact with each other.
I also enjoy drawing dogs. My two labradoodles, Bandit and Milligan, are usually willing models. Dogs have so many expressions that mirror human sympathy and emotion, and so it is not hard to find one somewhere in my work, as a main character or far off in the distance. Monty and Mortimer, a story created during my MA about two dogs with very different needs and characters, was highly commended for the Macmillan prize 2017.
I live in Cambridge, a city full of inspiration, where I am surrounded by interesting places, people and (of course) lots of dogs.
