After running Hodder Children's paperback list for twelve years and previous employment at William Collins, Methuen and Hamish Hamilton Children's Books, the Elizabeth Roy Literary Agency was set up in 1991 to bring my experience of children's publishing to the business of being a literary agent. My knowledge of and passion for children's books allows my extremely talented clients to produce books across the whole spectrum of children's publishing: from baby and novelty books, through picture books and fiction and non fiction for all ages.
Although it's a small agency representing a select list of writers and illustrators, with the support of excellent rights specialists, I'm able to offer the best of all worlds: time to devote to my clients combined with access to experienced sub-agents to handle film, television and translation rights, and to specialist legal advice. Relationships with publishers are maintained and expanded by regular visits to their offices as well as to the Bologna and London Book Fairs.
The work that interests and excites me most comes from people who have taken the trouble to study the contemporary children's book market and have a writerly voice or illustration style which makes an emotional connection with the reader, and who have the potential for a long career in children's books.
