John Grant's best-known, highly popular work, the Littlenose series, debuted on BBC Television's Jackanory in the late 1960s, read and illustrated by him. The first book was published in 1968 and the adventures of Littlenose, a young Neanderthal boy and his pet woolly mammoth Two-Eyes, have been in print ever since and sold around the world.

John went on to write many young fiction titles.

John retired from his job as an architect and lecturer and died at the age of 84.
